Outdoor lighting is great for highlighting your home and increasing the safety of your property. It can turn a bland, dark, scary-looking landscape into a warm, inviting one. That is only if you keep up with it of course. Here are some tips for maintaining your landscape lighting.

• Clean Lenses: Dirty lenses and reflectors lead to the improper redirection of light. The weather can cause dirt, snow, water, and other debris to dirty lenses and reflectors. Insects can also make messes on lighting fixtures. Be sure to regularly clean your lenses and reflectors.

• Clean Around the Fixtures: Grass, weeds, branches, leaves, dirt, and mulch can cover light fixtures. It may not only prevent the fixture from directing its light properly, but it can also damage the fixture itself.

• Replace Burned-Out Bulbs: Dim- and burned-out light bulbs are useless to you. They also make your property look scarier. You should replace them. Consider upgrading your bulbs to more energy-efficient LED ones.

• Inspect for Damages: Light fixtures that are dented, corroded, or damaged in any way are a safety concern. It is quite easy for wiring to be damaged by animals chewing it, stepping on, kicking, running it over with lawn equipment, and more.
